Course Objective

The objective of this course is to present an overview of knowledge areas covered under the project management discipline with an emphasis on the topics pertaining to construction projects. The course also aims to prepare the students for managerial positions in potential international projects by providing them the essential construction management terminology used worldwide.

Learning Outcomes of the Course Unit

1   Recognition of construction management terminology used worldwide
2   Understanding the roles and responsibilities of players and participants in construction projects and realization of various construction project delivery systems
3   Awareness of knowledge areas and processes in project management discipline defined by the Project Management Institute
4   Being able to effectively utilize labor productivity, material management and equipment selection on construction sites
5   Understanding and managing the procurement process in construction projects
6   Understanding the Time Management concept and being able to utilize basic scheduling techniques
7   Awareness of different types of risk in construction projects and understanding the Risk Management concept and significance of safety and health management
8   Comprehending the significance of cost management in construction projects and awareness of different cost estimation methods

One mid-term examination will be executed. Five homework will be prepared in the scope of the course. This homework is in the form of analysis and will be delivered in the form of detailed presentations.
