Course Objective

The aim of this course is to give a description of most commonly used materials, methods of testing and their use in concrete pavements, pavement design, pavement construction, maintenance and repair. Besides, concrete pavement applications in our country compared to the international rigid pavement construction techniques and standards will be given.

Learning Outcomes of the Course Unit

1   To give information related to rigid pavement in terms of methodology and materials.
2   To negotiate the materials used in rigid and flexible pavements
3   To select suitable materials and equipment for the construction of concrete pavement
4   To give information about design concepts in terms of rigid pavement.
5   To review the literature regarding the use of materials and practices of the road
6   With the developing technology to assess improvements to the design of concrete pavements
7   To decide on the method of solution to the problems encountered in the construction of concrete pavements

The course is taught in a lecture, class presentation and discussion format. All class members are expected to attend both the lecture and midterm project seminar hours and take part in the discussion section.
