Course Objective

Courses generally taken into consideration basic principles in the design of local roads networks, techniques, standards will be subject to the principles and practice. Examples of local and universal solution of transportation and traffic problems faced by cities, The effects on these processes of change brought by the changing transportation Technologies,the formation and the structural formation of cities according to national and global scales and structural formations of the road network created by the interactions and integration of planning processes.

Learning Outcomes of the Course Unit

1   To classify the geometric characteristics which are needed on urban roadways.
2   To determine matters to be considered in the design of urban road.
3   To analyze the data related to the infrastructure construction of urban roadways.
4   To explain the steps for the construction of urban roadway with examples.
5   To interpret an urban roadway example project.

2 Traffic and transportation problems in cities, characteristics of traffic engineering and traffic management studies and their relations
3 Urban transportation planning, land use relations of city roads, determination of assignment subjects
4 Urban road ranking, cross-section and design features of urban roads
5 Designation of transportation routes in city centers, intersection design principles and congestion management
6 Methods of arterial performance measurement
7 Field work
8 Homework presentations
9 Planning and design of pedestrian and bicycle paths
10 Design and planning of parking area
11 Characteristics of public transportation systems, route design features and sections
