Course Objective

This course is to enable students to learn the fundamentals of optimal control and become familiar with techniques for finding the control signal that optimizes a given performance criterion under physical constraints for a process.

Learning Outcomes of the Course Unit

1   Be able to explain the concepts of optimal control, optimality, measures of optimality and performance indices in dynamic systems.
2   Be able to use appropriate techniques to handle optimization problems.
3   Be able to use variational approach to optimal control.
4   Be able to design linear quadratic control systems.
5   Be able to apply optimal control in the applications such as aerospace, industry, and vehicle control.
