Course Objective

It is clear that it is more significant to evaluate historical buildings in terms of the whole fabric rather than in a single way. Within this context, streets are dealt with as a part of the city and the centerline which buildings integrate with. Samples from Anatolia, which present a great richness and diversity in terms of street fabrics, are examined within the scope of the course. The course aims the investigation and evaluation of historical buildings as part of the fabric, giving the students the ability of perception and evaluation of those buildings with their environment, in our case the street.

Learning Outcomes of the Course Unit

1   To be able to explain street concept and its elements,
2   To be able to discuss the street phenomenon in the historical period,
3   To be able to examine the position of the street phenomenon in the context of city and housing,
4   To be able to classify the streets in the historical settlements,
5   To be able to evaluate the samples about the street fabric from Anatolia and abroad.

The course is taught in a lecture, class presentation and discussion format.
