Course Objective

This course is aims to teach the competences to make the choice of materials and examination.

Learning Outcomes of the Course Unit

1   Be able to know the structure of the materials.
2   Be able to understand the mechanisms of solidification and melting of materials.
3   Be able to classfy the alloys.
4   Be able to examine the phase diagrams
5   Be able to analyze the phase diagram of iron and cementite

Course Contents

Week Subject Description
1 The classification of materials, basic concep of the atomic structure.
2 The basic concept of solidification and melting
3 The solidification and cooling curves of the form of pure metals and alloys.
4 Dendrite and grain growth during solidification
5 Crystal lattice structure and crystal lattice defects
6 Pure metal, Dec-phase or compound and solid solution
7 Mid-term exam
8 Mid-term exam
9 Liquid is soluble in all proportions in the each other, partly soluble and insoluble in liquid and solid state alloys in each other
10 The transformation of solid state
11 Phase diagrams of pure metals
12 The examination of phase diagrams that has metal compound and intermediate phase.
13 Cooling curve of pure iron and allotropic change
14 Cementite phase diagram of iron and iron cementite phase diagram transformations
