Course Objective

In this course; it is aimed to gain the material selection and able to examine competences to the students.

4   Be able to implement the phase diagrams
5   Be able to draw the equilibrium diagrams

Course Contents

1 Materials use in technical field - Metalic materials - Ceramic Materials - Polymer materials - Composite materials
2 Basic concepts of atomic structure. Atoms and intermolecular bonds
3 Unit lattice types
4 Basic concepts of solidification and melting. The solidification and cooling curves of metals in the form of pure metals and alloys.
5 Dendrite and grain growth during solidification
6 Crystal defects, pure metal, Dec-phase or compound, solid solution
7 Mid-term exam
8 Mid-term exam
9 Standard representations of alloy steels. Liquid is soluble in all proportions in the other alloys. The alloys that partially soluble in eachother in liquid phase
10 The alloys that never soluble in eachother in liquid and solid phase.
11 Solid state transformations. Cooling curve of pure iron and allotropic change
12 Iron cementite phase diagram
13 Iron and cementite phases in the phase diagram
14 Iron cementite phase diagram transformations
