Course Objective

ARC 4503 Architectural Design V project has the following objectives:
* To understand and present a design problem within the framework of upper-scale urban relations,
* Managing on their own by including interdisciplinary studies in the process,
* It aims to enable students to transform a mixed-program into spatial organizations and structural designs.

The project proposals expected to be developed at this level aim to interpret "publicity", one of the most important concepts discussed in this course, and to cope with multiple problems such as different users, mixed-functions and upper-scale urban decisions.

Learning Outcomes of the Course Unit

1   Comprehending, presenting and analyzing the design problem within the framework of complex relationships ranging from the land to urban, regional and global scale
2   To be able to transform their inquiries into a design idea with a perspective that carries a critical and responsible attitude towards the city, the environment and society
3   To be able to produce innovative and creative architectural solutions for a large-scale and complex program that understands public practices
4   To be able to elaborate and present architectural proposals by developing them in terms of spatial, structural and technical equipment
5   To be able to integrate interdisciplinary information into the design process and manage the process autonomously

Planned Learning Activities and Teaching Methods

1. The learning process develops through project/problem-based learning.
2. Students develop answers to the spatial problems/questions directed to them and progress by taking criticism.
3. The student's learning process is observed and recorded with the work done during the course, the criticisms given, the Concept jury, Midterm Jury and the Final Jury.

Assessment Criteria

Final Project % 100 (LO1, LO2, LO3, LO4, LO5)

Evaluation,
1) Being able to analyze and interpret the given context from multiple perspectives (Conceptual Analysis Studies);
2) Being able to investigate the architectural design problem in a versatile way (Programmatic Analysis);
3) To be able to develop and design a medium-complexity architectural program requirement and its spatial equivalents within the framework of a main idea with original and comprehensive solutions (Concept Jury);
4) To ensure the conceptual depth, clarity and continuity of the main idea throughout the process (Midterm Jury);
5) It will be done within the framework of the criteria of being able to express the project process in a qualified way in visual, written and verbal environments (Final Jury).

Research Assignment/Concept Jury (LO1, LO2): Consisting of Conceptual Analysis Studies and Programmatic Analysis, it includes the analysis of the urban context, the interpretation of a needs program to be developed from the context, and the study and in-class exercises that enable the development of a context-specific main idea.

Midterm Jury (LO1, LO2, LO3): It is a midterm exam that includes evaluating students' preliminary ideas about the field and program and their half-term development. A student who does not appear before the Midterm Jury without a documented excuse cannot submit a final submission.

Final Jury (LO1, LO2, LO3, LO4, LO5): It is a final exam that includes an evaluation of the entire process of addressing the architectural design problem in a multifaceted manner and developing a research-based architectural design project.
