Course Objective

This course focuses on the renovation of the physical environment in the process of globalization. In order to understand the concept, the constitution and the evolution of the theory, main factors, physical/ social/ cultural/ economical inputs, actors, methods, laws and regulations are to be undertaken. Besides, contemporary approaches on the renovation theory are to be discussed through different interventions and implementations.

1   Defining the Renovation Phenomenon and its evaluation process.
2   Defining the factors of the renovation interventions.
3   Defining the legal regulations that effects the renovation interventions.
4   Questioning the renovation interventions through different implementations and methods.

3 Evaluation of the Renovation Phenomenon - The modernist movement -The period of 1960-1970 - The period of 1980-1990 - 21st century
4 The causes and actors of the Renovation interventions The Problems and the Possibilities of the Renovation Interventions
5 Regulations and laws -National and international organizations - National and international regulations -The role of the central and local authorities - Nongovernmental organizations and user participation
6 Renovation Interventions- Urban Renewal - Consolidation - Physical rehabilitation - Gentrification - Integration - The transformation reformation of the spatial identity
