Course Objective

This course focuses on understanding and planning the concept of the city within the integrity of the region and the natural environment. For this purpose, the course includes studies on the planning of the urban and rural environment within the unity of the province / basin, within the framework of natural, historical, social, economic and spatial characteristics, by considering the balance of protection and use. At the same time, it is aimed to learn concepts related to upper scale planning such as urban growth control, water basin protection, disaster prevention and rural development balance, which gain importance within the framework of sustainability, by discussing them within the analysis and planning processes.

Learning Outcomes of the Course Unit

1	1 will be able to define city/basin together with in its region (Knowledge),
2	2 will be able to tell city, basin and its region economic, social structure, ecological and historical values in historical period (Knowledge),
3	3 will be able to explain differences and tensions between urban and rural area (Comprehension),
4	4 will be able to interpret for solving the urban and regional problems using and the content and approach of existing planning practices (Application),
5	5 will be able to adapt the basic parameters of the planning approach in order to balance between industrial development and ecological / historical values for rural / urban development (Application),
6	6 will be able to plan of urban and regional systems with the alternative approaches (synthesis)

Planned Learning Activities and Teaching Methods

This course will be given through lectures, readings, field survey, research about examples, preparation of research reports and maps in the form of individual or group work, critiques of projects carried out in the form of individual or group work and preparation of project reports.

Further Notes About Assessment Methods

In order for students' work to be graded, they must be submitted in full and presented in the announced jury exams (intermediate juries and final juries). Studies not submitted by the student in the jury exams are not taken into consideration.

Assessment Criteria

Description (Knowledge) and Description (Knowledge) are measured by the 1st Interim Jury evaluation.
Clarification (Comprehension), Interpretation (Application) and Adaptation (Application) are measured by the 2nd Interim Jury evaluation.
Criticism (Analysis), Planning (Synthesis) are measured by the Final Jury.-

Course Policies and Rules

The critiques given over individual and group projects and reports will form the basis of the course. It is important that students regularly attend project critiques. Participation status of the students in the critiques will also be considered and this participation in group work will be taken into consideration in order to determine the contribution of the students to the group work. Students are required to have a good command of case studies and legislation related to planning.
