Course Objective

This course aims at defining the "landscape" which constitutes a significant place in planning efforts and enabling the comprehension of how the elements of natural and artificial environment that form the urban landscape should be considered together, using the basic principles in the sound restructuring of urban environments and designing the natural and artificial environment in an harmonious togetherness. Also It aims to be designed in a sensitive way to to human and community life and to the climate crisis and disaster issues.

Learning Outcomes of the Course Unit

1   will be able to define the concept of landscape in a wide context (knowledge),
2   will be able to discuss the importance of landscape design within the planning efforts (comprehension),
3   will be able to realise how the nature should be utilised in designs (comprehension),
4   will be able to use the basic principles in the sound restructuring of urban environments (implementation),
5   will be able to design the harmonious togetherness of the natural and the artificial environment, taking human and social life into consideration, with sensitive and technical knowledge.(synthesis)

1 Landscape design in distinguishing the natural and artificial environment
2 Understanding and evaluating the nature, analysis-synthesis in landscape design
3 Effects of climatic factors in landscape design, orientation
4 National/regional/urban green area systems, relationship with the open areas and planning principles
5 Design principles of urban axes and roads, landscaping of roads and the relationship with infrastructure
6 Bicycle paths, parking areas, bus stops and design principles
7 Midterm Examination This week homework subjects will be given to the students.
8 Pedestrian space, planning and design principles
9 Vegetation and design: use of vegetation in urban space
10 Water and design: Use of water in living environments as a scarce resource
11 Space and design: elements, scale, measures and the psychological dimensions
12 Form and space in the nature Golden proportion
13 Image and Technology in the transformation process of cities Biomimetic
14 Homework/Submission/Presentations This week, students will submit their homework.

Planned Learning Activities and Teaching Methods

The course will be conducted in the form of face-to-face education in the 2023-2024 Fall semester. Within the scope of the course, the topics are visual presentations, videos, animations, etc. according to the weekly program. materials will be transferred.
In addition, it is planned to create an environment of interaction in the form of question-answer, mutual discussion, case study and idea development related to the topics in the lessons. In order to ensure that students are active in the lesson, research assignments will be given to the students on related topics in the previous week. Research assignments, literature reviews, visual material and sample data collection/project review, analysis, synthesis, problem identification, analysis, etc. will consist of studies.
t is planned to evaluate the course through a midterm exam and an homework. Homework will be prepared individually and in this way, students' individual performance can be measured.
