Course Objective

The aim of this course is to introduce the sudents composite materials with a wide range of applications and uses. This course consists of three sections which are metal, ceramic and polymer matrix composites. In each section, the properties of composite materials, their components, production processes and application areas are discussed.

Learning Outcomes of the Course Unit

1   Have knowledge about properties and production processes of ceramic matrix composite systems
2   Comprehend the production technologies of reinforcing materials used in ceramic matrix composites
3   Understand the components, interfaces of metal matrix composite materials and their effects on material properties
4   Have knowledge about the production processes and application areas of metal matrix composite materials
5   Understand the components of polymer matrix composites and their effects on material properties
6   Have knowledge about production processes and application areas of polymer matrix composites
7   Have knowledge about general mechanical properties of composites and mechanical test methods applied to composites
