Course Objective

In textile finishing mills, energy has the largest share in total production costs. Energy saving is not only aimed at reducing the cost of mills, but also by using scarce resources effectively, leaving a better world for the future.
In this course, energy saving opportunities will be examined by using the processes used in textile mills.

Learning Outcomes of the Course Unit

1   Understanding the importance of energy conservation for the World and Turkey.
2   To have knowledge about basic concepts and systems related to energy management.
3   To understand the importance of energy saving in textile finishing mills.
4   To have information about energy saving opportunities in fiber and yarn production processes.
5   To have knowledge about energy saving possibilities in fabric production and apparel processes.

Course Contents

Week Subject Description
1 Energy, Energy sources, Basic concepts of energy management, Measurement methods.
2 Fuels and combustion, Energy efficiency in boilers and boilers, Steam distribution systems. Thermal insulation.
3 Pumps and energy efficiency in pumps.
4 Energy efficiency in electric motors and compressed air systems.
5 Energy efficiency in lighting, Accurate and efficient lighting.
6 Energy saving possibilities in fiber and yarn production processes.
7 Mid-Term Exam
8 Energy saving possibilities in fabric production processes and apparel.
9 Investigation of energy consumption of fundemental textile finishing processes. Water and energy saving in washing processes.
10 Energy saving possibilities in finishing processes. Waste heat recovery in wet processes.
11 Waste heat recovery in dry processes.
12 Energy efficiency in fans, Energy efficiency in drying.
13 Dryers used in finishing mills and their energy efficiency
14 Renewable energy sources and water.
