Course Objective

It is aimed to introduce the activities carried out in the clothing companies, to give information about the planning, organization, control and management of order acceptance, production and delivery processes.

Learning Outcomes of the Course Unit

1   To learn basic information about production planning and control in clothing companies
2   Understanding the relationship between work flow and layout planning in apparel companies and the importance of working area and environmental factors
3   To have information about work flow preparation and material requirement planning in ready-to-wear production.
4   To have information about setting up production lines and balancing methods in ready-to-wear companies and calculating the required number of workers and machines based on each operation
5   To have information about 4 basic control areas (time, efficiency, cost and quality control) for production management in ready-made clothing.

Course Contents

1 Organization structures in Apparel Industry and examples. Giving information about information flow and communication between departments
2 Basic information about the activities carried out for production planning in apparel businesses. Essential forms and documents for planning
3 Layout planning in apparel production, Classical and modern production principles and flow types used in apparel production
4 Introduction of environmental factors such as building regulations, ambient temperature, humidity, noise, air quality, vibration, lighting, ventilation in apparel businesses
5 Preparation of flow charts (product tree) used in apparel production, introducing sample flow charts for various products. Introduction of work on production flow analysis and material requirement planning
6 Production line establishment and balancing methods in ready-to-wear enterprises, sample applications
7 Midterm exam week
8 Production line establishment and balancing methods in ready-to-wear enterprises, sample applications
9 Calculation of the required number of workers and machines based on operations in ready-to-wear companies, sample applications
10 Time-study and control concepts, flow process and order time calculation for process planning in apparel production
11 Tracking and controlling individual and group productivity in the production processes in apparel businesses, introducing pricing systems used in apparel production and associating them with yield tracking / control
12 Quality control procedures used in the garment production process, pre-production, during and post-production quality control methods
13 Midterm exam
14 Cost calculation and cost control methods in apparel production
