Course Objective

The student should be able to critically discuss an interaction design as a cultural object, be able to compare different user interfaces and know about principles of interaction design as a means for communication.

Learning Outcomes of the Course Unit

1   Demonstrate knowledge of some theories of design of user interfaces, different interaction styles, interaction design patterns and their applicability
2   Skills be able to analyze a user interface from a communication perspective, to discuss a user interface from a historical perspective, to be able to select an appropriate interaction design pattern for a particular user interface situation
3   Values and attitudes demonstrate an awareness of the relation between interaction design and users expectations, reflect upon the possibilities and risks associated with different interface design solutions
4   Be able to discuss the nature of the design process and its relation to other phases of the software development process

In-semester studies will be evaluated with a midterm exam and a number of laboratory / homework activities.
The final exam will cover all course topics.

The students are assed through the quality of their coursework and the results on a written exam, project, and laboratory exercises.
