Course Objective

The objective of this course is to lecture advanced topics of strength of materials. The topics are chosen from the mechanical engineering applications. To concretize the course topics, solution and analysis of certain sample problems chosen will be done numerically in scope of the course.

Learning Outcomes of the Course Unit

1   Ability to discuss the three-dimensional state of stress 2   Ability to calculate and discuss the plastic deformation and stress cases 3   Ability to explain concepts of combined loading, stress concentration and shear center 4   Ability to design columns under buckling and thick walled vessels 5   Ability to discuss numerical solution results of the advanced strengths problems
