Course Objective

Constructing a comprehensive background including the types of the refrigeration systems, the cycles based on wihch these systems are operated and their thermodynamic analyses, the currently used refrigerants, and the main and auxiliary system components to be used in the refrigeration systems.

1   Classification of the refrigeration methods and introduction of the refrigeration cycles
2   Conducting the thermodynamic analyses of the refrigeration cycles
3   Introduction of the refrigerants and lubricating oils
4   Introducing the working principles of the main and auxiliary refrigeration system components
5   Displaying advanced refrigeration applications and making the thermodynamic analyses of their cycles

2 Classification of the refrigeration methods and introduction of the refrigeration cycles
3 Making the thermodynamic analyses of the refrigeration cycles: Comparison between the ideal and actual vapor-compression refrigeration cycles
4 Making the thermodynamic analyses of the refrigeration cycles: Investigation of the cascade refrigeration systems
5 Making the thermodynamic analyses of the refrigeration cycles: Investigation of the absorption refrigeration systems
6 Making the thermodynamic analyses of the refrigeration cycles: Investigation of the ejector refrigeration systems
7 Midterm exam #1
8 Making the thermodynamic analyses of the refrigeration systems: Investigation of the other refrigeration systems
9 Classification of the refrigerants and lubrication oils for the refrigerant selection
10 Main components of the classical refrigeration cycles: Compressor
11 Main components of the classical refrigeration cycles: Evaporator, Condenser, and Expansion device
12 Project presentations
13 Auxiliary equipment in the classical refrigeration cycles
14 Introducing the advanced refrigeration systems and making their thermodynamic analyses for the refrigeration at ultra-low temperatures and the liquefaction of gases
