Course Objective

The objective of this course is to gain some general, experimental and theoritical knowledges about the mechanical behaviours of composites materials to students; and to develop the ability of them to solve problems in the field of mechanics of composite structures, especialy laminated composites.

Learning Outcomes of the Course Unit

1   Ability to define composite materials and their application areas
2   Ability to calculate the mechanical properties of composites theoretically
3   Ability to determine the mechanical properties of composites experimentally
4   Ability to calculate and discuss the stresses occurred in laminated composites
5   Ability to design simple composite structures by using main failure criteria

Planned Learning Activities and Teaching Methods

During first two or three weeks general informations such as, definition, classification and production of composites will be expressed by presentation and videos. In the remaining weeks, mechanical of composite materials will be given theoretically. Sample problems for each subject will be solved.
