Course Objective

To provide the ability of determining the optimum pipe diameter, suitable heat exchanger and the pump for the geothermal heating systems by having the knowledge of the basic concepts of the geothermal energy and the elements that used in the geothermal heating systems. To provide general understanding of working principles of geothermal district heating systems and geothermal power plants.

Learning Outcomes of the Course Unit

1   Describe the basic concepts of geothermal energy.
2   Explain the utilization of indoor heating systems.
3   Calculate the capacity of the heat exchanger and the pump systems for the geothermal heating systems.
4   Explain the district heating system.
5   Compare the working principles of the different types of geothermal power plants.

Assessment Criteria

1st, 2nd and the 3rd learning outcomes will be assessed by the 1st midterm exam 4th and the 5th learning outcomes will be assessed by the 2nd midterm exam. All the learning outcomes will be assessed by the final exam.
