Course Objective

To introduce refrigeration systems with the design principles of its components, and exercise on cooling load calculations .

4   An ability to calculate cold storage.

3 Cooling systems. Halocarbons refrigerants.
4 Cooling systems with ammonia and brine.
5 Stepped cooling systems
6 Calculation of cooling load. Specifications of insulation materials used in cooling plant.
7 Midterm exam #1
8 Wall construction of cold storage room. Heat transfer calculations. Design data of food
9 Elements of cooling system. Condensers.
10 Elements of cooling system. Evaporator design, cooling towers.
11 Pipe design in cooling systems.
12 Midterm exam #2
13 Characteristics of control elements.
14 Functions of control elements. Moisture control in cooling systems.
