Course Objective

Lesson contains targets about using excavation methods and machines in mining and students will be informed on presentation of excavation machines and how to excavate.

Learning Outcomes of the Course Unit

1   Students learn conventional and mechanic excavation and machines.
2   They can calculate basic design parameters in excavation and effects on excavation efficiency.
3   They can make calculations on bit types, wear forms and specific energy.
4   They learn calculations on cuttability and drillability rates of rocks.
5   They can learn calculations about TBM (Tunnel Boring Machines), Roadheaders and Hydraulic hammers.
6   They can learn defining methods of excavation performance.

1 Conventional and mechanical excavation in mining, Determination of Homeworks
2 Defining using machines in mechanical excavation
3 Defining basic design parameters and effects on the excavation efficiency
4 Introduction to cutting theories in wedge and conical type bits
5 Introduction to cutting theories in disc, star, kerf and pineapple type cutters
6 Comparison of all cutters
7 Sample calculations in roadheaders, hydraulic hammers and TBMs (Tunnel Boring Machines)
8 Effecting factors of cutter bits production and wears
9 Defining and determination methods of cuttability and drillability
10 Introduction of prediction methods of excavation performance, Explaining of sample projects from the world and Türkiye
11 Introduction of prediction methods of excavation performance, Explaining of sample projects from the world and Türkiye
12 Explanation and discussion of projects in the class, General evaluation
13 Explanation and discussion of projects in the class, General evaluation
