Course Objective |
The aim of this course is to introduce the students to the fundamental principles of soil mechanics and to ensure that students understand how these properties are used to solve some geotechnical problems like classification, compaction, seepage, compression, consolidation and shear strength. |

Planned Learning Activities and Teaching Methods |
Course topics will be presented and applications will be performed in class for the enhancement of the subjects. Students will prepare reports on the solutions done with individually assigned data about classification and compaction of soil materials of a zoned embankment dam, seepage under a sheet-pile wall, compression and consolidation of a clay layer under a shore road fill, evaluation of shear box and triaxial compression test results. |
