Course Objective

The physical and mechanical properties of concrete which is the most commonly used construction material in the world will be focused within the scope of Materials of Construction-II course. Initially, students will gain the basic knowledge about the ingredients of concrete and mixture proportioning methods. At the second stage of this course basic information on quality control and durability properties of concrete will be presented.

Learning Outcomes of the Course Unit

1   To be able to define the basic concepts of cement, aggregate and concrete
2   To be able to make experiments about concrete components and concrete properties, to present and interpret the results as laboratory reports
3   Choosing suitable materials for a specific application based on engineering knowledge
4   Concrete design for different engineering applications
5   To be able to control concrete according to quality standards
