Course Objective

Objective of this course is to give an ability to identify the general and sectorel characteristics of industrial wastewaters, to develop appropriate treatment flow scheme considering legal aspects and sustainable natural sources management, and to design required treatment units.

Learning Outcomes of the Course Unit

1   To be able to define the general characteristics of industrial wastewater, to have information about the parameters to be analyzed in wastewater characterization depending on the sector.
2   Being able to follow the legislation regarding the management of industrial wastewater and being aware of the importance of complying with the legislation in terms of ethics, public health and environment.
3   Ability to generate alternative flow schemes to dispose of industrial wastewater without harming the environment
4   Having the ability to design the units in the treatment facility and to make projects and write project reports with team work.
5   Having knowledge about methods that will ensure optimum resource use during production and minimize waste generation in accordance with sustainability concepts.
6   Having the ability to manage different types of industrial wastewater and taking action according to the problems of the age reflected in the field of environmental engineering.

Assessment Criteria

20% of the midterm exam and 30% of the grades taken for the project done during the semester will be considered as the grade for the year. Those who do not submit a project will not be able to take the final exam.
