Course Objective

Natural disasters are events that negatively affect livability and sustainability. Thus, recognizing the types and characteristics of natural disasters and primarily earthquakes and knowing what kind of effects they have especially in urban areas are considered necessary for the management strategies likely to be implemented. In addition, the primary objectives are considered as having knowledge about the developments in new management strategies and modern approaches in public administration,evaluating the position of Türkiye by examining the experience of developed countries.

Learning Outcomes of the Course Unit

1   To understand the crisis types and the basic stages of the crisis management process
2   To be informed about the basic legislation on disaster management
3   to gain the ability to compare current applications with past practices in disaster issues
4   Taking account of the relationship between disaster management and crisis management, to gain the ability to compare the institutions and organizations which have responsibility for disaster management decision-making and implementation activities with best practice examples in the world
5   To raise awareness about disaster management
6   To gain a multidisciplinary perspective on disaster

1 A General Overview of the Course and Introduction Presentation of a general overview on the subjects of the course `Natural Disaster-induced Crisis Management Definition of the basic terminology of the course
2 Crisis and crisis management, historical development and etymological structure of the concept of crisis, characteristics of crisis, crisis process, types of crisis, purpose and importance of crisis management, stages of crisis management and integrated crisis management
3 The phases of disaster and crisis management, and integrated disaster management
4 Country examples of natural disaster management experiences
5 The development process of disaster legislation in Türkiye
6 The institutional and administrative building in disaster management in Türkiye
7 Related legislation
8 Related legislation
9 Emergency Law and disaster management
10 Local Governments and Disaster Management Applications
11 Relationship between Development Plans and disaster management
