Course Objective

Main aim of this lecture is to give some basic definitions about archaeological terminology, archaeological settlements and architectural characteristics, archaeological prospection methods, aerial photography and satellite imaginary used in archaeological prospection, geophysical methods applied on archaeological sites, global positioning systems and geographical information system for archaeology, global and local importance of archaeological prospection.

1   To be able to have an idea about general archaeological terminology
2   To be able to recognize the archaeological settlements, architectural features and physical properties of the materials used in archaeological structures
3   To be able to know the definitons of archaeological prospection and used methods
4   To be able to evaluate aerial photographs and satellite images
5   To be able to know geophysical methods applied in archaeological sites
6   To be able to provide background about global and local importance of archaeological prospection

10 Ground penetrating radar method and its use in archaeological sites
11 Rarely applied geophysical methods used in archaeological site investigations
12 Integrated geophysical methods used in archaeological site investigations
13 Geochemical methods and thermal sensing methods used in archaeological site investigations
14 Studies of global positioning and geographical information systems in archaeological prospection
