Course Objective

The ordinary papers are not always sufficient to the needs of commercial life, therefore the negotiable instruments are developed inorder to fill this gap. The aim of this lesson is to let the students to understand the functions of negotiable instruments in commercial life.

Learning Outcomes of the Course Unit

1   To be able to identify the valuable papers which are regulated in Turkish Law and distinguish them from other obligations
2   To be able to explain the function of valuable paper
3   To be able to explain the course of using valuable paper
4   To identify the rights embodied in the valuable paper and the claims
5   To distinguish the commercial papers among other valuable papers
6   To explain the similarities and the differences between the types of the commercial papers
7   To explain the preocedure of payment

4 To be able distinguish the rights embodied in commercial papers and the rights arising from main obligations
5 To be able to show the form requirements of bill of exchange
6 To be able to explain the acceptance, endorsment and payment in bill of exchange
7 To be able to show the form requirements in a promisorry note
8 The Types and functions of endorsment
9 The pleas in negotiable instruments
10 The liability of the drafter and the endorsees in the promisorynote
11 To be able to show the form requirements in a check
12 To be able to explain the transfer of check
