Course Objective

This course builds on ethics components in existing capital market and investments courses by incorporating environmental, social, and governance (ESG) considerations and methods into investment processes, products, and practices. The objective of this course is to point out the importance of non-financial issues (such as environmental, social, and governance) on a company s performance and valuation and integrate these issues into stock and bond investing decisions, portfolio management, and asset allocation decisions and the activities of financial institutions such as banks and insurance.

Learning Outcomes of the Course Unit

1   1. Identify and assess environmental, social responsibility, and corporate governance issues and risks in investment decision making.
2   2. Propose and assess the impact of ESG factors on firm performance and valuation.
3   3. Explain how ESG factors can be integrated into equity and bond investments.
4   4. Explain the impact of ESG factors on portfolio management and asset allocation decisions.
5   5. Measure the performance of ESG investments.
6   6. Identifying sustainable banking and insurance.
