Course Objective

This course strives to enable the learner to have a new orientation and way of thinking by focusing on business model through innovation and sustainability perspectives. Within the framework of the Sustainable Development Goals, this course will introduce innovative business model approaches to sustainable solutions of economic, environmental and social problems. This course also aims to equip the learner with the skills to develop and analyze sustainable business models via necessary frameworks and tools.

1   Explain the business model concept and its components.
2   Understand business model innovations within the context of environmental, social and economic sustainability.
3   Learn the frameworks, tools to develop and analyze sustainable business models.

ASSIGNMENT 1: Students are expected to the read the assigned chapter, understand the related SDG, briefly summarize and present it by discussing the SDG from the business point of view.
Assignment 1- Grading Criteria and Rubrics:

Having a Good Command of Subject (by Asking Questions to Each Presenter and Summarizes the Context and Content of the Chapter in the Report)%50

Presentations will be graded based on Presentation Rubric.
Presentation Rubric:
Well-versed in subject, responds to questions with further explanation Excellent (100%)
Overall command of subject matter, responds to questions on a basic level Very Good (80%)
Generally comfortable with material, able to answer most questions Good (60%)

ASSIGNMENT 2: Students individually are expected to analyze the sustainability report of a firm (either local or global) assigned by the instructor.
Assignment 2- Grading Criteria for Analysis
Making the analysis appropriately (100%)

ASSIGNMENT 3: Learners in groups are expected to develop a sustainable business model by using the frameworks and the tools introduced in the course. Groups will prepare a report and present their business model offerings.
Grading Criteria for Presentation
Having a Good Command of Subject (50%)
Presentation Rubric will be used for grading
Content and context adequacy (50%)
Evaluation Rubric will be used for grading


ASSIGNMET 4: Discussions will be conducted based on the findings of Assignment 2.
Assignment 4- Grading Criteria for Discussion
The evaluation rubric will be used for the assessment of all criteria stated below.
Summarizing the Context and Content (30%)
Critical Analysis (Explain the best and poor SDG practices of the firms and making comment on the adequacy of the practices of the firms)(40%)
Professional Communication (being able to listen to and respect others; being able to communicate the ideas to the audience) (30%)
