Course Objective

This course aims to introduce students the basic principles of retail environment, strategic management of retail business, and teach the commercial strategies used in retail businesses by examining retail operations from different perspectives.
It also provides students with information about the structure and functions of retailing, actors in retail business and strategy development in retailing sector. Main topics of the course include actors in retail industry, strategic management in retailing, effects of retail environment on operations and strategic decisions, and commercial planning.

Learning Outcomes of the Course Unit

1   To understand how to apply strategic planning in retailing,
2   To gain a perspective about the importance of analyzing the enviroment in which the store will operate,
3   To propose, defend, formulate and implement strategic and general management choices,
4   To develop appropriate risk, competitor, and region analysis skills,
5   To investigate quality standard details of retail industry,
6   To demonstrate an awareness and understanding of retail commercial process,
7   To analyze relevant knowledge about the relationship with suppliers in order to improve their strategic decision-making skills in retail sector, basically in supplier management,
8   Having an understanding about price management and buying process,
9   Being capable of using related software,
10   To demonstrate high verbal and written communication skills through report writing and oral presentations.
