Course Objective

It is aimed to realize a comprehensive field study in the field of interest in current topics in operations management.

Learning Outcomes of the Course Unit

1   Make a field study in groups in order to be able to distinguish the production operation systems in companies.
2   Define problems regarding production operations department in order to identify and bring recommendations about the solution of the problem.
3   Improve oral and written communication skills through class discussions and presentations.

Assessment Criteria

1. Students must construct a detailed report.
2. All group members must contribute to the class discussions.
3. Late submissions of reports will not be graded.
4. All groups should present their work each week.


Assignment criterion 1
Clarity and Communication: Clear and coherent presentation of ideas, with well-structured arguments
and logical flow. Effective communication of findings and insights through concise and articulate
writing, suitable for an academic audience. (35 points)
Assignment criterion 2
Content Understanding: Demonstration of understanding key concepts and principles in each of the
mentioned fields. Accurate interpretation of the articles; content. Integration of concepts from multiple
articles to provide a comprehensive analysis. (35 points)
Assignment criterion 3
Integration of Multiple Perspectives: Integration of insights from articles covering different areas of
operations management, showcasing a comprehensive understanding of the interdisciplinary nature of
the field. Recognition of interconnections and potential synergies between Green Manufacturing,
Lean Manufacturing, Total Quality Management, Supply Chain Management, Smart Manufacturing,
and Smart Factories. (20 points)

Overall Synthesis: Integration of insights from all articles to provide a holistic view of the topics.
Synthesis of key takeaways and implications for the broader field of manufacturing and management.

Term project criterion 1
Comprehensive Analysis of Functional Areas: The project should provide a comprehensive analysis
of the manufacturing firms operations across key functional areas including Marketing,
Production/Operations, Finance/Accounting, and Human Resources, demonstrating a thorough
understanding of each area role in operations management. (25 points)

Term project criterion 2
Integration of Operations Management Principles: Assess the extent to which the project integrates
operations management principles discussed in the lecture of PRD 4242 into the analysis of each
functional area, highlighting their impact on overall operational performance. (25 points)

Term project criterion 3
Strategic Recommendations for Improvement: Assess the quality of strategic recommendations
provided for each functional area based on the analysis, aiming to enhance operational efficiency,
effectiveness, and competitiveness of the manufacturing firm. (30 points)

Term project criterion 4
Presentation Clarity and Professionalism: Evaluate the clarity, coherence, and professionalism of the
projects presentation, including organization, writing style, use of visuals (if applicable), and
adherence to academic standards, suitable for the lecture of PRD 4242 on Current Topics in
Operations Management. (20 points)
