Course Objective

The goal of this course is to introduce students to topics in economics that are related to inequality, poverty and discrimination.

Assessment Criteria

1. The midterm exam will be based on essay questions that evaluate understanding, synthesis, and evaluation of the topics covered during the lectures.
2. Group homework will be given to better understand the economic and social problems covered within the course. Groups will consist of two people and the expectations from the groups are as follows:
Describe and analyze the extent of poverty / inequality economic discrimination in the selected country
Analyze the causes of the problem at hand
Discuss the policies to solve or decrease poverty/inequality/discrimination in your selected country.
Cites all information and data obtained from other sources.
3. Presentations will be assessed on capacity to structure the presentation, oral communication skills, ability to respond to questions and manage audience participation.
