Course Objective

The aim of this course is to
1. Provide the learner an understanding of development of cities and urbanization,
2. Make the learner become familiar with urban theories, urbanization, industrialization and the associated problems,
3. Give the learner an insight about basic dynamics of urbanization in Türkiye.

Assessment Criteria

1.The midterm exam will be based on essay and problem type questions comprising the theoretical discusisons made during the lectures.
2. Group Project will be assessed on the process of writing a term paper related to a problem in urban economics. Students may study in groups of maximum 2-3.
Each group is expected to:
1. Prepare a research question and a proposal on the related topic.
2. Prepare a detailed literature review.
3. Collect data, carry out empirical analyses and present the results using tables and graphs.
4. Clearly state the policy implications based on the conclusions of the study.
5. Demonstrate adequate time management and teamwork skills.

3. Presentations will be assessed on preparing presentations in a logical, interesting and effective sequence, using fluent English and maintaining eyecontact with the audience.
