Course Objective

This course mainly aims to meet the mandatory minimum requirements for seafarers for familiarization, basic safety training and instruction.

Learning Outcomes of the Course Unit

1   1. Students will be able to survive at sea in the event of ship abandonment.
2   2. Students will be competent to operate life-saving appliances and take charge of a survival craft or rescue boat during or after launch.
3   3. Students will have knowledge of fire prevention and fire fighting
4   4. This course will give new seafarers an insight into the various elements of a ship and working procedures on board so that they adjust to the shipboard environment, and are better prepared to cope with any unforeseen circumstances.
5   5. Students will be competent to take immediate action upon encountering an accident or medical emergency until the arrival of a person with medical fist aid skills or the person in charge of medical care on board.

7 Classification of Fires and Applicable Extinguishing Agents-Selection of Fire Fighting Appliances and Equipment
