Course Objective

- Acquire the ability to comprehend any written texts related with maritime business and international logistics including chartering related telex messages
- Summarize what he/she has understood in such reading activities
- Write business letters particularly concerning international trade and logistics
- Complete the basic maritime related documents such as Bill of Ladings and Charter Parties
- Orally carry out business negotiations
All in all, be able to effectively use all the four language skills listening, speaking, reading and writing in maritime business and logistic issues.

2	Filling out Bill of Lading and other contracts and similar documents or forms related to maritime business administartion
3	Ability to express oneself clearly in maritime business and logistics activities

6	Ship brokering and chartering: Understanding of English terms and related concepts, sentence analysis of Charter Agreements/Conditions and comprehension of abbreviations

8	Ports: Understanding of English terms and related concepts
9	Ship agency: Understanding of English terms and related concepts
10	Documents used in maritime trade: Sentence analysis of contract terms and conditions
11	Correspondence: Examining internal and external English correspondence samples of maritime businesses
12	Reading Skills: Reading exercises (articles, news, current magazines, etc.)
13	Listening Skills: Being able to understand and summarize what one hears by listening to documents such as videos, audio recordings, telephone conversations about maritime related issues
14	Term Paper Presentations

Recomended or Required Reading

Rather than a fixed text book, for each session a file of material collection is made use of, gathered and compiled from certain proper sources particularly from the references suggested in the next box, depending upon the focus of each particular session.

Copies of the documents used in international trade as well as shipping and excerpts from the course books studied in the other maritime business related courses, e.g. Marketing Management, Maritime Economics, International Logistics, and Maritime Law and from such updated maritime business related journals as Seatrade Review, Maritime Policy and Management, Containerization International, International Journal of Physical Distribution and Logistics, Fairplay, International Shipping Weekly, Lloyd s Ship Manager, Journal of Marketing, Seaway and Marine Policy.
