Course Objective

To explicate Jesus time, the age of the Apostles, the birth of Christianity and the church and all the details in Early Christianity from a rational perspective on a scientific basis

Learning Outcomes of the Course Unit

1   Jesus: Jesus as a historical figure and also from the point of view of divine religions and his life, purpose, teachings, influences and also controversial issues about him
2   Apostles: all the details about the apostles as reflected in the sources, their activities during the life of Jesus and after his death, their effects on the next centuries and also controversial issues about them
3   Paul the Apostle: Traditional assumptions on Paul, former and new paradigms about him, his relations with Jesus and the Apostles, his role and significance in the birth of Christianity and his value in the church history
4   The Church: the emergence of the church that formed the basis of Christianity
5   Church Fathers: Christian intellectuals who wrote theological texts the first centuries, their works, views, their historical significance and also their effects on later periods

6 Traditional assumptions about Paul, old and new paradigms on a rational basis about him
7 The relationship of Paul with Jesus and the apostles
8 Midterm Exam
9 The role and importance of Paul at the point of the birth of Christianity, his value from the point of view of church history
10 The emergence and early history of the church
11 Christian writers who wrote texts containing theology in the first centuries
12 Works and opinions of Christian writers
13 The importance of the Church Fathers from a historical point of view
14 The influence of the Church Fathers on subsequent periods
15 Final Exam
