Course Objective

Tehe purpose of this course is to review West's orientation to the sufism with the movements of the orientalism and researches of them in this field, the role of the sufism in converted to Islam in the West, the literature written by western researchers about the sufism and the Islamic mystical groups in the western society.

Learning Outcomes of the Course Unit

1   Student has knowledge about the orientalism and sufi researches (studies).
2   He understands what is the role of sufism in the conversion to Islam in the West.
3   He learns the view to the sufism of the traditionalist school that emerged in the leadership of Rene Guenon in the West.
4   He has information about works on sufism and content of them written by western researchers.
5   He recognizes some Sufi communities that are active in the West, their leaders and their basic features.
