Course Objective

To give sufficient information about Turkish educational perspective and institutional structure by looking at history of Turkish education. To explain pre-Islamic and post Islamic period of Turkish education. Key views in Turkish education, its basic problems and institutions will be examined and linked to today s education system.

2   They will be able to explain Turkish educational thought and its institutionalisation
3   They will know sub-systems of education and their aims and functions
4   They will learn Turkish National Education system and its workings
5   They will be able to use scientific methods in finding and resolving some educational problems

4 Post-Islamic period: Karahans, Selchuks, and Great Selchuks
5 Establishment period of Ottomans
6 Comparison of Turkish education versus Western education until 19th century
7 The rising period of Ottomans
8 Mid-Term exam
9 The developments in military schools
10 General look on The reorganization period s education system in Ottomans
11 The reforms in civil educational organisations
12 The period of absolute monarchy and constitutionalism educational systems
13 Turkish Republic education system and "Tawhid-i Tadrisat"
14 Highest educational institutions and contemporary problems in education
15 Final exam
