Course Objective

To provide for student a recognizaiton of the place of philosophy in Ottoman thought, its development, stages, thought schools and general outlook about ottoman thought. to provide recognization of important philosophers of Ottoman thought and an outlook about their importance for an understanding of contemporary Turkish thought.

Learning Outcomes of the Course Unit

1   At the end of this course student will learn basic lays of thoughts raised from ottoman times to republic's times
2   Student will be able to evaluate contributions of Ottoman thinkers to Islamic thought
3   In the contexts of tahafuts argument, student will grasp even if questions are same, the answers would be different in the course of time
4   Student will gain knowledge about relations made between kalam, usul i fıqh and sufism also will grasp ottoman thought's place in the frame of these relations.
5   Student will be able to pursue the direction of Islamic thought in the hand of Ottomans
