Course Objective

To teach forms of mosque music and enable the students to perform in accordance with their skills

Learning Outcomes of the Course Unit

1   Will learn the significant points of mosque music forms regarding common points, areas of performance, differences, and relations among them.
2   Will comprehend the emergence and development of the forms.
3   Will learn the differences between Arabic and Turkish performance.
4   Will comprehend the meaning, improvising, truely using and performing accordance with the style, of the forms of mosque music
5   Will gain skills on maqam using and effective performance in accordance with their abilities.

1 Introduction to Religious Music
2 Main maqams (melody type) in mosque music
3 Voice Training, Improvization, Ways to Control the aesthetic points
4 Main maqams of Turkish Music and transition from one maqam to another one
5 Recitation of Quran and Performance for Mawlid
6 Adhan (Islamic call to prayer), Interior adhan and Qamah
7 Varieties of reciting Salawat and Salaam and their performance
8 Midterm exam
9 Munajat, Qasidah, Marsiyah
10 Takbeer, Tekbir, Salat al-ummiyyah
11 Religious music types such as Jumhur, Tawshih, Tasbeeh
12 Having the students to listen to the important performances of mosque music
13 Performing the forms of mosque music individually by the students
14 Performing the forms of mosque music individually by the students
15 Final Exam
