Course Objective

The aim of this course is to give sufficient knowledge to students about how the theology had occured, its proper definiton, foundaiton, and about essential views of main scholars who had contributed its development.

Learning Outcomes of the Course Unit

1   Students wil have professional and essential information about history of theology.
2   They will get knowledge about some faith problems in Islamic thought.
3   They will get the ability to analyze and synthesis by knowing different aproaches.
4   They will learn essential theological schools.
5   They will get informaiton about new theological science in modern era.

Course Contents

Week Subject Description
1 Five essential elements of Mutazilah and Mutazili thought in essential issuas: Rason-tradition, Khalqu-l Quran, Ruyatullah; Husun-Qubuh.
2 Basra and Baghdat schools of Mutazilah
3 Some Scholars and their views of systematical period of Mutazilah: Allaf, Nazzam, Câhız, Ebu Ali Cübbâî and Ebu Haşim Cübbâî, Hayyat, Kadi Abdulcebbar, Zemahşeri.
4 Salafiyyah, Establishing period of Ahl Sunnah.
5 Establishing process of Ashariyyah and Mutaqaddimun period: Baqıllani, Ibn Furek, Isferayini, Baghdadi, Cuweyni.
6 Mutaakhhirun period (in terms of System, terminolgy, aims and goals) and leading names of it: Ghazali, Razi, Amidi, Tusi, Iyci, Taftazhani, Gurgani, Ali Kushchu, Hocazade.
7 God, Universe and existance views of Ashariyyah.
8 Mid-term Exam
9 The foundaiton of Maturidism and its relation to Hanifism.
10 Some essential views of Maturidism: Konvledge, Godhood, human actions, Prophethood, Faith and Major Sin.
11 Some imprtant Maturidiyyah scholars and their works: Maturidi, Hakim Semerqandi, Pezdewi, Ebul Muin Nesefi, Omar Nesefi, N. Sabuni, Ebul Bereqat Nesefi, Beyazi, Sivasi.
12 Negligence reasons of Maturidism: Comparison Maturidism to Ashariyyah: Marifetullah, Husun-Qubuh, Partial Will.
13 Comparison Maturidism to Ashariyyah: the offer to the lack of power, taqwin,Hikmet, Hearing the words of Allah, Prophethood of women
14 Contemproary thought of theology
15 Final Exam
