Course Objective

Teaching of scale drawing of minor objects discovered during archaeological excavation. Applied drawing skills of minor objects. Applied recording and scientific cataloguing of findings regarding their material, color, surface treatment, slip, glaze and inclusions.

Learning Outcomes of the Course Unit

1   To be able to draw in scale a pottery objects (intact, fragments of rim or base) by measuring diameter, height, thickness of wall and inclination.
2   To differentiate the color, inclusions of clay and the surface treatment slip, glaze etc.
3   To use the appropriate and correct terminology defining the objects related with their techniques and features.
4   To achieve suitable cataloguing information.

1 Discussing why drawing is necessary in archaeological studies and introducing the materials required for drawing. Theory+Practice
2 Explaining how to draw a bowl and discussing how and for what purpose the drawing tools will be used. Theory+Practice
3 Explaining the drawing of a spherical body vessel. Theory+Practice
4 Explaining the porcelain bowl drawing. Theory+Practice
5 Explaining the drawing of a full bowl with a handle through the use of a ceramic object with a handle. Theory+Practice
6 Explaining how to draw the fully recovered jug-like closed vessels. Theory+Practice
7 Explaining how the ancient ceramic production stages and catalog information of the finds were made. Theory+Practice

9 Explaining the drawing of a broken vessel with inverted rim. Theory+Practice
