Course Objective

Biophysical methods to teach the basic concepts and review. Machinery and tools used in dialysis patients with the operating system to understand the impact on patients and staff.

Learning Outcomes of the Course Unit

1   Uses the laws of physics in the study of living organisms.
2   Analyzes the atomic and molecular structures of living things.
3   Explain biological macromolecules.
4   Apply the energy concept to biological systems.
5   Explain the molecular organization of cell membranes.
6   Explains the biological effects and applications of electromagnetic waves.

Course Contents

Week Subject Description
1 The topic of Biophysics, Biophysics and science among the common disciplines
2 The scope of biophysics and its branches, One by living organisms as open systems, living organisms and the laws of matter and energy transport routes
3 Vector model of the atom and electron arrangement, orbital angular momentum, magnetic moment, electron spin, total angular momentum, the coupling of multi-electron systems, pauli principle
4 Atomic and molecular content of organisms, the molecular bonds within and between molecules, and strong interactions, weak interactions, hydrogen bonding, hydrophobic interactions
5 Characteristics and importance of water for living, aqueous solutions, acids, bases, biological macromolecules, amino acids, peptide bonds, proteins, nucleic acids, lipids
6 Energy transformations in biological systems, the first law of thermodynamics, second law of thermodynamics
7 Gibbs free energy, photosynthesis, respiration, energy transfer in Biomolecular Systems, reactions and catalysis effect, human energy requirements
8 Midterm exam
9 Cells and the cell membrane, diffusion, Fick's laws, diffusion of membrane and Osmosis
10 Molecular organization of cell membranes, cell membrane particles in the transition, passive transport, active transport
11 Radiation and life forms, and applications of biological effects of electromagnetic waves, radio waves, microwaves,Infrared rays, visible light, ultraviolet rays, lasers and biological effects
12 X-ray scattering and absorption mechanisms, the characteristics of X-rays, biological effects
13 Radioactivity, alpha, beta rays, gamma rays, and the half-life of activity
14 Effects of Radiation absorption and concepts and related units, biological effects of ionizing radiation and its applications, radiation protection
15 Final exam
