Course Objective

This course examines the experiences of the Jewish American individual and Jewish American culture in America through discussions of basic concepts and themes in the novels of major Jewish American writers.

Learning Outcomes of the Course Unit

1   Students are expected to know major Jewish American writers and their novels
2   to grasp the major concepts and themes dominant in the formation of the Jewish American and in the Jewish American culture
3   to analyze the conflicts in the Jewish American individual and culture between being traditional or modern as a result not only of the Holocaust trauma but also of the changes and transformations experienced in America
4   to analyze the conflicts of Jewish American individual between being a Jewish American and an American.
