Course Objective

To focus on American westward movement and American frontier through works of literature, to analyze the individual writers/poets/thinkers of the period and their works, opinions, the relevant trends, social and historical events of the period

Learning Outcomes of the Course Unit

1   have general knowledge on 19th century American literature and American renaissance from historical perspective
2   identify how romantic literature reflected the socal life in which it was produced
3   explain and interpret the written works of fiction and nonfiction of the period
4   generate ideas on the relation between American frontier, American identity and American democracy
5   describe and conclude how to read a piece of literary work in English in a scientific manner
