Course Objective

To focus on American bildungsroman in terms of race, gender, ethnicity, and to define American identity and the process of maturation in various periods and in the works of different authors

Learning Outcomes of the Course Unit

1   Have general knowledge about American bildungsroman
2   Identify attitudes of discrimination in the bildung process of the heroes/heroines
3   . Explain and interpret the formation of American identity
4   Generate ideas on how psychological, social, institutional, and familial pressure shape character formation
5   Describe and conclude the relation between literature and education
