Course Objective

The aim of this course is to provide Turkish Language and Literature teacher candidates with the ability to read and write 19th and 20th century texts written in Ottoman Turkish, to comprehend the grammatical features of Ottoman Turkish, the structure of Arabic and Persian words and phrases in Ottoman Turkish.

1   To be able to read 19th and 20th century printed texts of Ottoman Turkish
2   To be able to write 19th and 20th century printed texts of Ottoman Turkish
3   To be able to make sense of printed texts of Ottoman Turkish from the 19th and 20th centuries
4   Increasing vocabulary knowledge of Ottoman Turkish
