Course Objective

including the cultural values;social constructions; the roles and relationships;traditions The use of literature in teaching language is the main concern of the course. The elected short stories and novels from English and American literature originally written in English and the different features of these two genres; the different approaches for the young learners and grown-ups with different levels of English;the integration of literature and language teaching in terms of theory and practice through these two genres(short story and novel); the analysis of the literary texts regarding their contents and linguistic features; the analysis of the methods of culture teaching through the use of short story and novel in the fields mentioned; the objects and products in the native and foreign languages from comparative and contrastive point of view ;proverbs and idioms; the clichés /conventions;beliefs;values; prohibitions and taboos;certain superstitions of the societies;the political,historical and economical background; the institutions of culture;the use of the figures of speech and irony.

Learning Outcomes of the Course Unit

1   To introduce how to use the literary set texs in teaching English
2   To enable the students to comprehend the differences among the literary set texts
3   To specify the features of two different genres
4   To learn the methods and approaches of teaching the literary set texts
5   To enable the students to make the analysis of the literary set texts in language teaching through the selected techniques
