Course Objective

To teach fundamentals of linguistics; to help students to gain the knowledge of phonology, phonetics, semantics; and to allow them to develop necessary skills to use this knowledge to compare and contrast.

Learning Outcomes of the Course Unit

1   To be able to define linguistics, competence, performance, components of linguistics and language universals
2   To give examples to sign languages, artifical languages, and communication among animals
3   To explain the relation between language and brain
4   To compare the sounds of English and Turkish languages
5   To give examples to linking and stress in English language
6   To be able to conduct semantic analysis of the words and sentences
7   To be able to conduct comparative analysis of English and Turkish languages.
