Course Objective

The period from the foundation of the Ottoman State (1299) to the Treaty of Küçük Kaynarca (1774) political developments in the Ottoman Empire during this period, state organization and local government units; community life and social institutions, cultural developments and other environmental states and societies.

Learning Outcomes of the Course Unit

1   Recognizes the political and economic characteristics of Anatolia and Rumelia during the establishment and promotion periods of the Ottoman Empire.
2   Classical period recognizes the institutions of the Ottoman Empire.
3   Learn the political, economic and cultural characteristics of the classical Ottoman Empire.
4   Conflicts of the Ottoman with other surrounding states and communities
5   Learn the elements that make the Ottoman Empire a world empire.

1 From the Beginning Beylik to the Empire (from Osman Ghazi to the end of the first Beyazit period)
2 Fetret age and Re-establishment (from Mehmet I. to the end of Murat II) Conquest of Istanbul and Imperial period / Fatih period
3 The Ottoman Empire becoming a world power / I.Selim and Kanuni period
4 Pause period and reasons. (From the second semester to the 1683 II.Vienna siege)
5 The developments that lived from the siege of Vienna to the 1774 Treaty of Küçük Kaynarca. Tulip revolt and the first reform efforts
6 Ottoman Culture and Civilization during the Establishment and Rise Periods.
7 The Ottoman dynasty and inheritance system The functions of the palace organization and the palace
8 General review, course evaluation, midterm exam
9 Divan-ı Hümayun
10 The rural system and the management of the provinces.
11 Soil regime and fertilization system
12 Ottoman cities, economic activities and tax system
13 Ottoman social life and legal system
